What is our World Coming to?

An Open Letter to Greece Superintendent of Schools Regarding the Harassment of Bus Monitor, Karen Klein…

For those of you already aware of the incident on a Greece bus this past week, below is a letter I wrote and sent directly to the superintendent of Greece schools. I have made this letter public on all forums available to me.  Please feel welcome to repost any or all of it as you see fit.

June 20, 2012

Dear Mr. Richardson,

I’m very concerned by the behavior of the specific students in your district who have appeared on television and the internet apparently harassing their poor bus monitor, Miss Karen Klein. Although I do not hold you or your staff responsible, I do believe decisive action is required to (1) curb any potential future behavior of these students and (2) to arrest the attention of parents and students. You are in a special place to resist evil or to condone it.

I’m certain that you have to do your own independent verification, but once you know who was guilty, I believe you must respond with only strong and decisive action.  Considering the comments about cutting, invading her house, and the like, anything less than decisive action could only make you and the district culpable if harm ever did come to Miss Klein.

These are the names of some of the alleged wrongdoers as reported on the Internet:

Luis Recio
Wesley Helm
Brandon Teng
Joshua Slesak

Systemically, I believe we are confronting a moral breakdown of which this is just a small example.  Families and schools must teach, exemplify, and support traditional values. The absence of Biblical morality as expressed in Scriptures like the Ten Commandments and the Golden Rule leaves a vacuum that will NOT remain empty for long. Soon, as this incident indicates, evil conquers the space amorality leaves behind.

Thank you.

(Note: The language the children use is so vulgar I do not recommend watching the video as originally posted.  I watched it not knowing what would be said, and to my own detriment, I watched it to the end. I feel dirty and very angry as a result.)

THE DEATH OF A LEGEND

Psalm 49:16-17  Be not thou afraid when one is made rich, when the glory of his house is increased;  (17)  For when he dieth he shall carry nothing away: his glory shall not descend after him.

ESPN just reported that retired linebacker GREAT Junior Seau, who played most of his     career with the San Diego Chargers, died of an apparent suicide.

San Diego Chargers front office spokes people released a statement that in part read: “Everyone at the Chargers is in complete shock and disbelief right now. We ask everyone to stop what they’re doing and send their prayers to Junior and his family,”

It always amazes me at how empty the world leaves a person.  Fame and fortune don’t even begin to fill the God shaped hole in the heart of man.

Think about the fame and success Mr. Seau had!

HE played for 20 seasons in the NFL!  The world’s most famous sport!  He was named to the the Pro Bowl 12 times!  After he retired he went on the radio and television as a part time analyst and NFL commentator.

Think about the money he earned!  Over the span of his career, he averaged well over million dollars per year!  That’s a total of at least 20 million dollars!  Invested, that money could be easily double that amount, by now.

Doing a little bit more homework, I learned that he is actually the eighth member of the 1994 Chargers, a team that reached the Super Bowl that year, to die at an early age!

Here’s the list of 8 other NFL stars who had their lights exstinguished too early:

  • Chris Mims–died on October 15, 2008 of an enlarged heart at 456 lbs
  • David Griggs–died on June 19, 1995 in a car crash
  • Rodney Culver–died in a PLANE CRASH with his family in 1995
  • Lewis Bush--died of a HEART ATTACK on December 8, 2011
  • Curtis Whitley–found dead on his bathroom floor on May 11, 2008, at only age 39 from a possible drug overdose
  • Shawn Lee--passed away on February 26, 2011, at age 44, from cardiac arrest brought on by double pneumonia
  • Doug Miller– fatally struck by two bolts of lightning in July of 1998 in Colorado

With no disrespect intended to the loss of life (the Lord knows how precious EVERY life is to Him), I believe the case of Mr. Seau and these other poor men show us the GREATEST NEED of all is not for wealth, fame, or even success; mankind’s greatest need is to know God and experience the gift of eternal life.

In the end money doesn’t make you happy.  Fame doesn’t satisfy, either.

People need the Lord.

Pro Bowls or not, I hope Mr. Seau and these men, knew Jesus Christ.

Mark 8:36  For what shall it profit a man, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul?
